Overview
Capoeira
is a Martial Art system of African-Brazilian origin that involves
many dance-like and acrobatic movements including spinning and tumbling
actions, cartwheels, handstands, kicks and evasive movement. The
practice of Capoeira is set to music, making use of a variety of
instruments including drums, tambourines and a native instrument
known as a berimbau. The tempo of the music dictates the tempo of
the game. When practitioners, known as Capoeiristas gather to "play
the game" of Capoeira, they perform in a circle known as the
Roda.
Because
of it's rhythmic movements and dynamic interactions, this Art is
often sought after by those interested in Dance, Music, Gymnastics
and the Martial Arts. Capoeira incorporates elements of each of
these. This seminar will include a video presentation, as well as
a demonstration of the art.
