Overview
Groundfighting
is one area often overlooked in modern Martial Arts training. We
are sure to offer a variety of training methods
and technical perspectives on the grappling arts, including Shoot
Wrestling and Brazilian JiuJitsu.
For
practical Self-Defense, we discuss the potential strengths and weaknesses
of the various grounded positions, taking into consideration environment
and multiple opponents. This is where Vale Tudo comes into play.
At advanced levels, Stick Grappling becomes another variable.
 Initially
students will learn about the different grounded positions, efficient
movement, defensive skills and awareness. As students become more
familiar with a grounded position, techniques such as submissions
and chokes are introduced. These are often trained in a sequence
of techniques called "Flows."
As
students gradually build their arsenal they are offered opportunities
to spar, with less and less limiting parameters, until they are
capable of competent groundfighting.
Our
Saturday classes are most often joined by several advanced students
from the Matamoros Gym. This is an excellent opportunity for students
to train with more experienced partners and learn from their insights.
