Phase Two: Panantukan/Knife
Class
Meets: Wed. 8 PM - 9 PM
Instructor: Anthony Sell
Overview
The
Filipino Martial Art of Panantukan is one of the most effective
systems we offer for practical self-defense. This boxing method,
in addition to punching and striking with the fist, incorporates
the use of elbow strikes and finger jabs, arm and neck wrenches,
guntings
and strikes to vital points, and serves to bridge the gap between
striking and grappling.
 Based
largely on the use of the knife, the mindset behind this method
is very aggressive and street-effective for an empty-handed Martial
Art. Training methods include the use of focus mitts, closed circuit
drills, as well as trapping and flow drills.
The
knife portion of this class stresses the fundamental skills for
attribute development and evasion. Students will learn a variety
of forms of knife-tapping, disarms and countering.
Training
in this system also improves balance and coordination, maximizes
proper body mechanics in striking, and target awareness through
efficient striking.
This
system goes hand-in-hand with the Filipino Martial Arts Class, and
students who attend both for extended periods of time will find
amazing correlation and similarities in the movements of each. Though
we will also train Panantukan in our Kickboxing classes, this class
offers a chance to focus on the skills and coordination necessary
to perform this Art effectively.
