Genetic Potential, A Limiting Factor?

The genetic background of an athlete can have a great deal to so with their physical potential, as well as the type of physique that can be expected after a serious amount of training. Some lineages tend to have a longer frame, others have a stockier build.

ffectively, you cannot change your body type, but you can work within it to develop its own unique characteristics and achieve maximum potential. Likewise, as a Martial Artist, by identifying what your physical aptitudes are, you can choose your skills set to compliment them.

If during your upbringing you had an active childhood, you will be better accustomed to muscular development than if you had a sedentary one. Likewise, if you have an active family, you will be more familiar with the type of motivation and reinforcement that will be required for greater physical accomplishment.

Health problems are another variable that are unique to individual athletes. If your family has a history of diabetes or other hereditary disorders, you will need to be concerned with the potential for development and adjust your training and expectations accordingly. This includes hypoglycemia, asthma, high blood pressure, and a number of other inherited ailments.
