Ram Muay

Thai, Boxing dance, part of the pre-fight ritual in a traditional Muay Thai match.
Randori Japanese, Free practice, used in Judo and Aikido. A drill where one defends against many in real time, developing awareness, Ki, and fluidity of motion.
Rapido From the Spanish, a mindset for attack in some Filipino Martial Arts, Rapid, multiple strikes.
Rapier Italian, A long thrusting sword popular in Europe during the Renaissance considered to have originated in Italy in the earlier 1500's
Rapier Fighting English, A mode of engagement which requires a greater degree of pragmatism, adjusting for a larger, heavier and slightly less manueverable weapon than is found in modern fencing.
Rear English, The part of your body that is on the same side as the leg farthest away from your opponent. This term is often used initially to develop a sense of reference for describing the delivery of strikes. See Back.
Rear Mount English, A position where a fighter has the superior position of straddling his opponent who is face down between his legs.
Rear Quillion English, On a Renaissance-era sword, the crossbar that extends over the thumb-side of the grip.
Redonda From the Spanish, Continuous circular double stick technique.
Redondo From the Spanish, literally, Circular motion, returning - A strike with a weapon such as a stick or sword (typically a lobtik) that moves in a circular fashion, returning to its original chambered position upon completion.
Redoublement French, A common term used in sport fencing, a method of parrying designed to force the adversary's blade out of line in order to prepare for a continued attack.
Reference Point English, A point of contact in striking and trapping, also grappling, which illuminates through kinesthetic awareness, the position, range and potential of the rest of the body. In trapping there are four basic reference points, outside to outside (left to left), outside to inside, inside to outside, and outside to outside (right to right). Also known as an Index.
Rei

1. A Japanese term used to describe the principle of right action and courtesy, concepts prized in Shinto and Bushido.

2. Japanese, A command to bow.

Rei Ho Japanese, practice etiquette.
Release English, Pertaining to Grab Defense, this is the actual technique or action that causes an opponent to relinquish their hold on you or your person is referred to as a Release.
Renmei Japanese, A federation, league, or union of Martial Arts clubs.
Renshu Japanese, Practice or training period.
Renzoku Japanese, a term meaning continuous, repeated; continuity, succession.
Renzuki Japanese, Continuous attack.
Repuesta Spanish, a fencing term, see Riposte.
Retirada From the Spanish, to retreat; move backwards out of range.
Reversa Italian, a term used in fencing referring to cutting actions that move towards the right, from left to right, or backhand.
Reverse English, A fencing term referring to a high outside guard. See Prima.
Reverse Arco Similar to the Arco, but in the opposite direction, outside to outside.
Reversi French, from Savate, the equivalent of a Tae Kwon Do outside cresent kick, striking with the outside edge of the foot.
Reves Spanish, fencing term, a blow delivered backhand. See Reversi.
Ricasso Italian, Fencing term, the unsharpened part of a blade contacted by the index finger when wrapped around the hand guard for tip control, typically seen on rapiers and other trusting weapons
Ridge English, On a single edged sword blade, the narrow edge opposite the cutting edge; on a double edged sword blade, the strong point between the two cutting surfaces running the length of the blade.
Riken Japanese, Backfist.

Ritsurei Japanese, Standing bow.
Roku Japanese, a note (as in a great text).

Rompida An upward and downward slash.
